This course gives students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the National Gallery collection looking at the history of painting through drawing and learning about different aspects of the collection. Participants are encouraged to extend the work that is made in the gallery and to apply it to their own practice through drawing, painting, printing and sculpture.
Equipment and material:
In the National Gallery charcoal, watercolour, chalk and pastels are not allowed. These limitations extend your choice of materials: charcoal pencils, aquarelle crayons (not the pencils), all manner of pens, biro, felt tip and graphite. You will require a drawing pad. The size depends on how you work. A portable stool is useful and these can be bought from the Cass Art Shop near the gallery in Charing Cross Road from around £15.
